Issue 3: Pre-colonial Architecture


Population migrate in Malaysia had resulting an outstanding architecture that planted in this country. During pre-colonial period, foreigners from Chinese country brought over their own architecture style, which stands out from other buildings, creating a unique and contented architecture. This issue, had narrowed down into three architectural inspiration from the foreigners:


1) Open space in air well 

    
The idea was brilliant, to have an open space in the middle of a building, where it not only allows natural sunlight to illuminates the interior space,it also provides excessive fresh air from outer and also helps to collect rain water where people in the olden days used to do their laundry beneath the air well. 


2) Natural cross ventilation method


In the olden days, where electrical appliances had not been greatly introduced, people came out with a wise solution, by creating open holes and barriers. This allows fresh air from outer flows into the interior space of the building. The result, effectively reduces the stuffiness for the interior spaces. 


3) Five foot alley


The great amount of rainfalls in Malaysia had bugging the people from getting wet. The solution is, they created these five foot alley, designed to be a space that keeps away from rain and excessive sunlight, so that people can walk through shops conveniently.
